Child and Adolescent Counselling
Counselling takes place weekly at a time convenient for you and your child and lasts for 50 minutes, online or in person. It is child-led and child-centred as I believe that every child or young person is the expert on what they are experiencing and what they need to reflect on their emotions, feelings, and thoughts. Young children are still learning how to navigate their emotions, and adolescents are navigating how to become their emerging adult selves. Counselling offers them a space for reflection, exploration, and support from a trained mental health professional. The sessions may involve talking, play, art, or drama, depending on what the child feels most comfortable with. Depending on what is most helpful for the child, we can work with the family and the child or with the child only on a short- or long-term basis. Sessions with children under 16 years old are preferable in person. Together, we can explore and identify what you aim to gain from therapy and how we can best achieve it. Working towards a goal can support you during the process and help you understand what is troubling you the most. I aim to create a non-judgmental therapeutic relationship of trust and acceptance and support you every step of the way.
